"Yes I watch Too Much Television"

"I watch television too much. When I get home from school, I do my homework and then watch television. I watch television from, well mostly from 5:00 to 8:00 every day. I realy like television, but I wish I could do my homework faster. Now I hope you know why I watch too much television." - written by 9 year old Julie

I found this while going through old school stuff a few months ago and I realized how funny and spot on it still is! Granted, I don't watch tv from 5pm - 8pm every night, but I do love to chill out, relax, and watch some quality TV. It puts me in a zone. There is nothing wrong with taking a little time to veg out and watch the boob tube, but I wanted to challenge myself and see what I would do with my time if I couldn't watch TV at all.

So for 2 days I am grounded from the TV (I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time I've been grounded from watching TV...well, I do remember being grounded from Nintendo for a while for being too competitive with my Mom...).

Today was day 1, and not surprising I had so much time in the day to fill! I get off work at 3:00pm, which means unless I have something planned that night, I have a good 7 hours to fill before I go to sleep. So...I went on a long hour walk while talking to by bestie Anni (excercise check!), then walked to the store, bought fabric for the dress I am making for Hailey, went to Safeway, came home and worked on some projects, and then made a batch of cookies to give to my nieghbors.

I'll be honest, sitting down in front of the tv when I am done with my work and projects is so automatic it was a little difficult not to do. Especially when new episodes of Degrassi are on our DVR! Don't judge. When you have little to no channels cause you are too cheap to pay for the upgraded packages, then you can talk. We have the family plan which includes Teen Nick, home of my favorite Canadian Teen soap opera Degrassi. It's like an afterschool special every episode! Loves it! Even Callie watches it with me now...and I'm 100% sure she likes it too. They address issues such as teen pregnacies and made up pregnancies, transgender teenagers and are they considered gay?...PFLAG, running for class presidencies and the stresses of being over achievers with no car privileges, domestic abuse and frumpy school uniforms, internet gamer pedifiles, controlling parents, and way more Justin Bieber hairstyles than you can count. How could you not want to tune in to that?! Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSt70vjvgig

  2. We don't even have a TV. Didn't know what I am missing out on. =p Whatever I want to see is online, so it works out for me to watch something when the kids nap or after bedtime. You are doing great on your list!
